3.      Sven Erik Johansen was elected secretary

4.      There were 2 alternative agendas. One made and distributed by Morten Rygh previous to the meeting and one made by NMF that was unknown to the participants until start of the meeting. The meeting decided to use the agenda made by Morten Rygh.

There was no addition to the agenda

5.      The minutes from the Nordic Discipline Meeting in Helsinki 2007 was reviewed. A clarification to §9 were stated: For the classes 7A, 7B and 7C, there is no change to the cylinder volume limit.

6.                      UEM Cups

6.1.                Evaluation of the 2008 season

There was pore rider attendance to the UEM cup. Various proposals were discussed. Each national classic racing organization was encouraged to increase their rider’s attention to the UEM cup. Especially the British riders seem to have little knowledge of the UEM Cup. John Davidson will try to reduce the costs for foreign riders attending the Donington race.

Donington

This event was a very positive experience, but the limited practice time may have prevented Nordic riders attending. For 2009 it is very likely that a practice session will be organized on the Thursday prior to the event.

Sviestad

This event was also a positive experience, but there are things to sort out. During one night the brake lines on some bikes had been cut. This has been addressed to the organizer.

The track is very narrow and all heats are filled to the limit with riders. Some of the riders are very slow compared to the front runners. This makes for several difficult overtaking situations and is a possible safety hazard. The case was addressed to the organizer to sort out.

6.2.                Race calendar for 2009

Preliminary race calendar for 2009

12 – 14 June                   Schleiz                               OMK

18 – 21 June                   Donington                          ACU

31 July – 2 August          Sviestad                            SVEMO

The Schlez circuit was originally a road circuit, but is now modified to qualify as a purpose built circuit. There are questions with the race in Schleiz that Björn Weissmann is to figure out. The classes they have run up to this year are very different from the UEM classes. How will they cope with additional classes according to the UEM regulations? The date for their race may collide with Nordic races. Is there a way to avoid this?

Jens Kroon said that he had got reports from riders who had been to Scheiz, that the track has the safety facilities that we would like to see.

Morten Rygh will investigate if there are possible alternative dates for the race at Våler to prevent collision with the Schleiz event.

6.3.                Rules and technical matters

The technical regulations have been translated from Swedish to English and the draft version was presented in the meeting. The regulations are attached to this MoM for the attendants to read and return comments. The focus is to be on the translation and the English phrasing.

Our regulations must be compared to the official UEM Vintage regulations.

See attachment 1

7.                      Nordic Cups

7.1.                Evaluation of the 2008 season

Ring Knutstorp

Jens Kroon informed the meeting.

To secure the economy for the vent they had also invited modern classes from the Danish Championship. The experience was positive. The economy was good.

Bothnia Ring

Penti Elo informed the meeting.

Modern classes were also invited to this meeting. This was a positive experience.

It is an increasing difficulty to hire race tracks for classic events and Pentti had to regret that there will be no event for 2009. A raise of the status from Nordic Cup to Championship may better the situation. See §8.7.

Våler

Morten Rygh informed the meeting.

The number of spectators was as usual. The economy was healthy. The event was a positive experience.

ACR

Morten Rygh informed the meeting.

The event was poorly attended by the riders. Lack of local riders also made local sponsorship difficult. An endurance race open for modern and classic bikes was very popular among the riders. The presence of day light around the clock is a benefit for the event. The economy was healthy.

Sviestad

Lennart Olander informed the meeting.

The event had the highest number of riders ever, 380 competitors and 20 for the super parade.

Do also see §6.1

Karlskoga

Lennart Olander informed the meeting.

There were 220 participants. The economy was good because of many spectators and the organizer had negotiated a favourable agreement with the track owner. The riders complained about too limited practice time.

Ring Djursland

Jens Kroon informed the meeting.

The organizer had also invited the international IHRO series to the event. The event was a success with many spectators. The riders liked the track even thou it was unknown to the majority. Lack of practice time was flagged as a problem. It is difficult for the organizer to provide more practice time as renting the track on Friday is not possible for the moment.

7.2.                Race calendar for 2009

Preliminary race calendar for 2009

24 – 26 April                   Ring Knutstorp                  DMU

12 – 13 June                   Våler                                  NMF

3 – 5 July                         ACR                                   NMF

31 July – 2 August          Sviestad                            SVEMO

29 – 30 August               Karlskoga                          SVEMO

19 – 20 September        Ring Djursland                  DMU

For the year 2010 onwards only one race in each country will have Nordic Cup/Championship status. See §8.7.

For possible change of date for the Våler race, see §6.2.

Lennart Olander proposed a new time schedule for the races to provide more practice time. Lennart is to send an e-mail to the participants to explain the proposal.

7.3.                Rules and technical matters

See §8 Proposals

8.                      Proposals

8.1.                Class 1, Pre 47, rim size

Presently maximum rim width allowed is WM2 (1.85”). The proposal was to allow WM3 (2.15”) rims to match rim width recommended by the tyre manufacturer for the tyre commonly used. The meeting sanctioned the proposal. See attachment 2.

8.2.                Class 4, Rear disc brake

The proposal was to change the rules to make disc brake prohibited on the rear wheel. The meeting did not sanction the proposal. See attachment 3.

8.3.                Position on the start grid for the race on Sunday

The proposal was to also use the lap times from Saturday’s race in addition to the timed practice to decide grid position for the race on Sunday. The meeting did not sanction the proposal. See attachment 4.

8.4.                Adherence of machines to technical regulations

The proposal was not regarded to belong in the Nordic meeting. Instead the meeting addressed the proposal to the national classic racing organizations. Seeattachment 5.

8.5.                Change of name on sidecar classes.

The proposal was to switch the name of class 8A to 8B and 8B to 8A. The proposal was not sanctioned. See attachment 6.

8.6.                Price giving for races.

The proposal was to give one price for the combined result of the Saturday and Sunday race. The meeting concluded that this was up to each organizer to decide. It shall be stated in the supplementary regulations for the meeting how price giving is organized. Seeattachment 7.

8.7.                Status of the Nordic Cup races.

The proposal was to raise the status of the Nordic Cup to Nordic Championship. The meeting had a positive attitude to this and concluded that Morten Rygh should make an application to the Nordic Council to change status for the year 2010 onwards. The application was forwarded on Sunday just after the meeting.

8.8.                Eligibility of machines.

There is a machine in Norway that had previously been given a machine licence in Denmark, making it eligible in class 5 classic 500. Based on this and communication with the owner, the machine was given a Norwegian machine licence for the same class. Later it has been discovered that this machine was not available until 1973, the year after the cut off for the class. The question to the meeting was: Based on the history of this particular machine, should it be made eligible for class 5 classic 500?

The meeting concluded that the machine shall not be made eligible for this class.

9.      Miscellaneous

John Davidson informed that the Donington race circuit is to be rebuilt and extended. The work is not expected to have an adverse effect on the UEM race due in June 2009. For details see attachment 8 and the web site:  http://www.donington-park.co.uk/events/the-track
